Wright Earns Spot in Region Tournament

Parry McCluer will be represented at the Region C golf tournament after all.

After a long day at the Pioneer District golf tournament on the Vista Links in Buena Vista, which produced some high scores all around. It appeared as if PM’s lone golfer, Trevor Wright, would be left out of the regional field. However, when the final scores were tallied, Wright found himself in a tie for the final individual spot, and the senior went on to win a one-hole playoff to squeak into the regional field.

Wright finished the first 18 holes with a score of 121, tied with Covington’s Aiden Raether. So the duo trudged off to the first hole, where Wright sank a long bogey putt to win the playoff and earn the regional berth.

Eastern Montgomery’s Haley Howard fired a round of 80, nine shots better than runner-up Allison Douglas of Covington, to earn medalist honors and to lead the Mustangs to a second-place finish in the team competition. Bath County won the district title with its combined score of 410.

The Region C tournament will be held Oct. 9 at Virginia Tech’s Pete Dye River Course.
