PM Cruises to Tourney Title

Defense ruled for the Parry McCluer boys basketball team as the Blues claimed the Pioneer District tournament title with a 58-24 victory over Narrows Friday (Feb. 18) night in Buena Vista.

Narrows led once in this game, 2-0, but from that point it was all Parry McCluer. The Blues held a 32-16 halftime advantage and limited the Green Wave to just eight points in the second half en route to the tournament title. Narrows went scoreless for over seven minutes in the third quarter and did not get its first bucket until less than 40 seconds remained in the period.

Meanwhile, PM used the duo of Spencer Hamilton and John Snider in the paint to take complete control. Hamilton finished with a game-high 24 points, including a 9-for-10 performance from the free throw line. Snider, who dominated the offensive glass, tallied 15 points for the Blues. Ryan Perry, who held Narrows sharp-shooter Kolier Pruett to just 11 points, scored nine points for Parry McCluer.

Pruett was the only player to reach double digits for the Green Wave but was held scoreless in the final period.

With the victory, the Blues added the tournament title to their regular-season championship and improved to 18-4 on the season. PM will face either Grayson County or George Wythe in the first round of the Region 1C tournament that begins Wednesday, Feb. 23, in Buena Vista.
